by Fred Rogan
The second edition of “What Your Employer Meant to Tell You When They Made You a Manager” is intended to help managers to understand how they should think and behave in their role as a manager and how they can be successful in getting their employees to be more engaged in their jobs.
Rogan’s book focuses not only on helping managers avoid being a bad boss but more importantly, learning how to be a good boss. The 2nd edition has most of the same content but has been updated and reorganized to facilitate using the book as a training guide for managers.
Rogan says, “As a result of being asked to provide management training based on the book, I have changed the order of the chapters to better accommodate this training, updated some portions and added some. I have reorganized the order to focus first on the thoughts and behaviors of managers, the first area in which change must take place; and then on to the workplace environment that managers are responsible for creating in order to attract, motivate and retain the best employees.”
“What Your Employer Meant to Tell You When They Made You a Manager” is a book you may want to get for your own development but it also makes a great gift for your boss if you think your boss has some management practices that need improving.
